Well, it's been a VERY long time coming. 4 years of undergrad, 3 years of medical school, 2 board exams stressful enough to eat for 20, countless tests, and many friendships later... it's finally time to apply for my first job!

Med school years 1 and 2 were filled with tests, studying, coffee, and countless hours of being selfish while I just had to put my head down and work hard. In my 3rd year, I finally got to work hands-on with my patients, which has brought me abounding joy to serve others during their scariest moments. What they don't tell you, however, is that 3rd year is really just means working a 10 hour job before getting to study until you fall asleep. I have played the internist, the surgeon, the pediatrician, the OB, the psychiatrist, the neurologist, and the ophthalmologist. I loved every one it it's own way.

Now, it's "Fourth year, best year" which is very true! I'm done with all of my scholarly tests and that energy can be given to my patients... and residency applications. In a bout of insanity, I've decided to dual apply to Pediatrics and Ophthalmology in hopes of becoming a pediatric ophthalmologist. I will only complete one of these residencies, but I must let the application process (and how well I do on interviews) decide which one.

All of this to say, I'm now traveling A LOT! I have a total of 12 pediatric interviews, 6 ophthalmology interviews, and 1 transitional year interview- each in different cities (see map below). So, the blog is now ready to get into action as I travel to each location, learn about the programs and cities, and try my best to have a job by May.

States I'll be interviewing in while on the trail
